iTunes: Apple Song Preview significantly prolonged

Now apple allow your to preview the song before an user can download. Currently you can listen any song for free on iTunes, extended from 30 seconds to 90 seconds. In a letter the company the U.S record labels stated that

“We are pleased to inform you that we prepare for the extension of the music preview from 30 seconds to 90 seconds on the iTunes store in the US. We believe that it will result in more sale, if we give potential customer more time to listen to the music” says the letter to the record labels, from the ‘MacRumors‘

This song preview change applies to all the song that are at least 2 minutes and 30 seconds. For all other content there is no change. Moreover, the 90 second song preview is now only available for United states user.

According to the report, the National Music Publishers Association was tipped off to Apple’s plan by CNET‘s original article and, on the advice of legal counsel, approached Apple on the day before the media event to express its view that extended song samples could not issued without discussions and licensing with the group.
